UN Global Compact
On June 18, 2004, Audencia became the first French business school to sign the UN Global Compact. The initiative brings together firms, UN agencies, labour and civil societies to support nine principles in the areas of human rights, labour and the environment. Through joint action, the Global Compact seeks to advance responsible corporate citizenship so that business can help respond to the challenges of globalisation. In this way, the private sector – partnered by other social actors – can help create a more sustainable and inclusive global economy. Audencia’s involvement in the Global Compact entails the school producing an annual report on its initiatives and results obtained. This report, like those of the other Global Compact members, will then be posted on the organisation’s web site (www.unglobalcompact.org) to help create an open access library of best practices. The school will also be able to take part in the yearly series of Global Policy Dialogues. These action-oriented meetings focus on key issues linked to globalisation and corporate citizenship. The meetings bring Global Compact members together to seek solutions to contemporary problems. Issues addressed include “The role of the private sector in zones of conflict” and “Business and sustainable development.” Global resonsibility blogAudencia’s approach to the Global Compact rests on transparency, with internet playing a major role in collecting opinions, proposing ideas and evaluating actions. Audencia students, alumni, employees, partner firms and institutions, and any other citizen interested in the school’s commitment can follow progress and give feedback at the global responsibility blog (http://resgloblog.typepad.com/).
