The signature of this charter commits us to implement, in the coming years, a complete system of digitalisation and simplification of Erasmus documents and procedures. By 2025, all European students should be able to benefit from the advantages of this system, known as the "European Student Card Initiative" or ESI.
This approach is based on two major projects:
- The introduction of a European student card, a visible symbol of European student identity. The card, which is fully compliant with EU legislation on the protection of personal data, will ensure the secure exchange of student information and facilitate the transition between higher education institutions. It will also give students the possibility to access online courses and services provided in other higher education institutions.
- The development of the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) data exchange network, which adapts to new uses by taking advantage of new technologies: dematerialisation, reduced management time and delays. EWP encompasses various applications that will be gradually introduced from 2021/22: 100% digitised Erasmus study contracts and agreements, new Erasmus + mobile application for students....
Jean Guillemot (DSI) and Cécile Steyer (head of the DAI's Europe division) have been involved since autumn 2020 in user working groups led by the Erasmus agency, in order to promote the operational implementation of the EWP for French higher education institutions.
Cécile Steyer, an active member of the "Erasmus Without Paper / EWP steering committee" group, presented the progress of the work and the deliverables envisaged during the "European student card initiative" webinar organised by the Erasmus agency on Thursday 28 January.
